The Catholic Church has taken notice of the challenging life of a young 29 year old man with Cerebral Palsy. The Catholic Churches recent endorsement of adult stem cells is a true blessing for Neil Barron of Phenix City, AL. Neil has mixed cerebral palsy, he is a quadriplegic destined to live out his deteriorating life in a wheelchair.

The recent advancements in medical therapies in using adult stem cell therapies has shown significant in the quality of life of several cerebral palsy patients treated in China. Neil has been accepted for adult stem cell therapies in China so he has been desperately seeking financial support.

Neil’s constant prayers and reaching out for help was answered by the Catholic Church. Reverand Warren Weise splits his time between two Roman Catholic churches, St. Patricks Church and the Mother Mary Parrish, both of Phenix City, AL. Reverend Weise, a theologian with four degrees, is dedicated to helping his community. After meeting with Neil and introducing him into the church community, Reverend Weise is heading the fund raising for Neil’s adult stem cell therapies in China. Neil’s treatments are scheduled for next month, December 28th 2010.

Our sincere thanks to Reverend Thomas Weise, and the church community of Phenix City Alabama.

God Bless!

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP — After supporting the Corvettes for Kids event as spectators for the past several years, this year the Kuenzi family and their oldest son, Dillon, will be the recipients of all the hard work the volunteers contribute.

“We heard about it a couple years ago,” Tiffany Kuenzi said of the Corvettes for Kids event, which helps families with children living with life-threatening illnesses and disabling conditions. “It’s just a good day of fun and it’s all the benefit the children.”

On Sunday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.,

dozens of Corvettes and Corvette enthusiasts will head out to Washington Elementary School along Route 100 just south of Bally for the Corvettes for Kids event. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event.
Tiffany and her husband Josiah celebrated the birth of Dillon, their oldest child, in June 2006. But shortly after Dillon entered the world, Tiffany said she realized something wasn’t quite right.

Both Tiffany and Josiah asked the nurses and doctor several times immediately after Dillon’s birth why their baby wasn’t crying. They learned Dillon wasn’t breathing and he would be sent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia for what would be the first of many trips to the hospital.

After five weeks in the hospital and myriad tests, the Kuenzis learned their son suffered brain damage as a result of his not breathing at birth. Since his birth, there have been many ups and downs, and none of them have been inexpensive.

In 2009, Tiffany took Dillon to China for a stem cell transplant using umbilical cord stem cells, which The Mercury reported on. The trip cost the family tens of thousands of dollars, much of which was raised through fundraisers organized by friends, family, church members, and even perfect strangers.

Tiffany told The Mercury prior to the trip to China that she had to see whether there was a way to help improve life for her son who couldn’t walk, talk, communicate with her in any substantial way, eat on his own or breathe without oxygen and respiratory therapy.

A year later, the Kuenzis have seen some changes in Dillon, but needing help financially hasn’t changed. That’s where Corvettes for Kids comes in.

Tiffany said she was so happy when she heard Dillon would be the spokeschild for Corvettes for Kids and that her family would benefit from the event that she couldn’t sleep.

“Just knowing that we’re going to be able to get some help” is a relief, she said.

Just one way the family will be able to use the assistance from Corvettes for Kids is in transporting Dillon in the family vehicle.

Just recently, before Tiffany and Josiah had their third child, the transmission went on the vehicle and they had to scramble to find a lift to get Dillon in his wheelchair into their family vehicle.

“My husband flew to New Hampshire to get a wheelchair ramp because it was the cheapest one we could find anywhere,” Tiffany said.

Tiffany is also grateful to continue telling her son’s story, which her church had printed up in a nice booklet and she will be able to give out copies at the Corvettes for Kids event.

“I know a lot of people have issues with their children and health issues and it gets discouraging,” Tiffany said. “So it’s nice to think I’m not the only one out there” and spread the message that families dealing with these issues are not alone.

Kuenzi said she and her family are grateful for everyone who has worked on this year’s event.

“The committee members and the board members, they’re amazing when you look at how much work they do,” she said. “These people are doing it just because they love the kids.”

For more information on Corvettes for Kids stop out to the event or visit www.corvettesforkidsinc.org

Admission to the event is a $2 donation per person and there will be food, entertainment, auctions, games and, of course, a Corvette show.
